🦅 LIFE EUROKITE Crime Report – out now

Between 2013 and 2024, 3,554 birds of prey from 7 species were tagged with GPS transmitters in 19 European countries.
So far, 1,623 of these birds have died.

🚨 The results are alarming:

• 320 birds (20%) were killed by illegal activities
• Cases occurred in 24 countries
• Poisoning caused 74% (238 cases) of illegal deaths, mainly using Carbofuran, banned since 2008
• Shooting accounted for 66 cases (20%)

📉 Extrapolated data indicate ~46,180 red kites died due to persecution between 2020–2024.

⚖️ Only 8 cases led to a conviction.

Bird persecution remains a Europe-wide problem. Effective conservation needs stronger laws, enforcement, political commitment, public awareness, and cross-border cooperation.
